LAUREN'S XMAS SHOP at ARTX NYC
Lauren’s Xmas Shop was a site-specific installation and performative exhibition presented by ArtX NYC during the 2020 holiday season. The project transformed the former Lotus nightclub into a staged retail and exhibition environment, using the visual language of holiday commerce to explore themes of intimacy, desire, memory, and cultural nostalgia.
Developed from Cohen’s practice of drawing and sculpting seasonal objects, the project expanded during the COVID-19 pandemic from public holiday booths into an indoor installation. The venue’s layered history informed the exhibition’s atmosphere, framing the work as a reflection on ritual, absence, and cultural memory.
An immersive installation in the defunct club kitchen was realized in collaboration with venue director Phoenix Eisenberg. Sculptural works were installed on stainless steel counters alongside found ephemera and obsolete media, creating an environment where accumulation functioned as both material and narrative structure.
